Dec. 9, 2006. That date marks the last time the River Hill Hawks lost a high school football game.

The Hawks have reeled off 25 consecutive wins since falling to Friend High School of Prince George's County, 37-18, in the Class 2A state championship game at M&T Bank Stadium. And the streak will be put to the test as Frederick Douglass of P.G. County comes calling Friday for a Class 2A quarterfinal matchup.

Poets One Step Closer To State Title

In Dunbar's last nine games in the state playoffs, the Poets are 9-0 with two state championships. They've also outscored their opponents by a whopping 368 to 161, scoring an average of 40 points a game -- in the state playoffs.

The Poets began their quest for a third straight Class 1A state title with a 52-14 win over Forestville last Saturday, scoring all 52 points in the first half. Tavon Austin touched the ball four times in the first quarter and scored three touchdowns as the Poets led 30-0 after one quarter.

If you can say one thing about the 2008 Maryland Terrapins football team it's that they are unpredictable. It's tough to tell which Terps team is going to show up on a given week.

One week they could be the team that suffered an embarrassing 31-0 loss at Virginia and another week they could be the team that earned a 20-17 grind-it-out win at then 20th-ranked Clemson as a big road underdog.

Poly's Rally Punches Playoff Ticket

With the game, the season and their careers on the line, Poly seniors Jon Marcus and Arnold Farmer simply refused to lose.

"Coach [Roger Wrenn] pulled me up at halftime," said senior co-captain Farmer, "and said, 'If we're going to win, the seniors are going to have to get it done.'"

And they did.

Poly came back from a 13-0 halftime deficit to beat City, 16-13, in the 120th renewal of this classic rivalry at M&T Bank Stadium.

Dunbar, River Hill Roll On

There are entrances, there are grand entrances and then there's the entrance Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen made last Friday night at the Poly-Western football complex as Dunbar beat Edmondson for its eighth straight win.

Friedgen arrived in a helicopter early in the second quarter, landing in a field right next to Lumsden-Scott Stadium for an up-close look at a variety of players for both teams. In particular, Friedgen was there to see Dunbar's sensational running back Tavon Austin.

It has been a tough month both on and off the field for Brian Abbott and his Loyola-Blakefield High School football team. Last month, 17-year-old Dennis Woolford, a member of the Dons' soccer team and a kicker on the football team, died in a car accident. Two weeks ago, starting quarterback Leon Kinnard broke his leg in a game against Mount St. Joseph's.

They were born a minute apart. At Bel Air High School they both earned 1430 on their SAT tests and shared the No. 1 ranking in their senior class. One played wide receiver, the other quarterback and both went on to play college football in the Ivy League -- at Harvard and Princeton.

Last Saturday at Powers Field in New Jersey, Harvard beat Princeton, 24-20, in the 101st meeting between the rivals -- and the fourth and final time seniors Andrew and Adam Berry had a chance to play against each other.
