IND Dominates Cross Country Meet

2007 IAAM Cross Country Championships  (Craig Amoss/Running Maryland )

The Institute of Notre Dame repeated as Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference cross country champions Wednesday at Oregon Ridge Park, beating Glenelg Country School by one point.

IND finished with 37 points, just ahead of GCS who had 38. Roland Park finished third, racking up 93 points while Severn and Garrison Forest finished fourth and fifth with 109 and 164 points, respectively.

Both the A and B Conferences run together in one race with scoring and then split into the conferences. Maeve Ricaurte of GCS finished first overall, beating all of the A Conference runners with a time of 19 minutes, 1 second in a very impressive performance.

She beat out John Carroll's Erika Stasakova by 9 seconds in a mild upset. Ricaurte beat IND's Sarah Steinmetz by 42 seconds. Steinmetz was the Indians' top finisher and came in second in the conference and fifth overall.

The Indians used four top 10 conference finishers to edge out GCS Country School.

Emma Rybczynski and Maddy Jackson from IND came in fifth and sixth, while teammates Julie Gessler and Abigail Gatch finished eighth and 16th, respectively, to help secure the victory.

The Dragons had three of the top four B Conference finishers. Samantha Matthews and Katie O'Dunne took third and fourth respectively. Those three also finished in the top 10 of the overall race, but it wasn't enough.

Emily Peterman were the other members of the GCS top five. Peterman finished ninth
While Kelsey Haist ended up 21st.

Other top 10 finishers were: Dorothy Ellis of St. Paul's School for Girls (seventh) and Katie Prey (Roland Park, 10th).
