St. Paul’s School for Girls won the Maryland/Washington, D.C., Private Schools Volleyball Championship this past weekend after defeating Good Counsel, 3-1. The Gators lost the first game 23-35, but bounced back and took the next three games 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16.
Junior Bailey Webster led the Gators with 34 kills, three blocks and 11 digs, and senior Rachel Kelley had 52 assists. Several seniors also had stellar performances. Jillian Unitas tallied 10 kills and went 24-for-25 from the serving line, and Bailey Griswold added nine kills and four blocks.
The Gators finished the season with a record of 22-1, their only loss coming against Archbishop Spalding earlier in the season. But the Gators got their revenge after they defeated Spalding 3-0 last week, making them IAAM A Conference champs.
The tournament victory marked the end of a very successful season for the Gators, who finished as the top private school program in the state of Maryland and Washington, D.C.
