Malloy, Howard Run To Titles

Kristen Malloy achieved one of her preseason goals but came up just short of another in last Saturday's state cross country championships. Malloy ended the season the way she started, winning on her home turf, the grueling Hereford High cross country course. However, her Bulls team came up just four points shy of the team title.

Malloy set a record back in September, winning the Bull Run and setting the tone for a senior season that has been a smashing success. She won the state Class 3A championship last Saturday, finishing the 3-mile race in 19 minutes, 36 seconds, four seconds faster than Howard's Elyse Borisko. But it was Borisko and Howard who won the team title by a mere four points over Malloy's Bulls. Cari Dimes finished fourth for Hereford and Marta Randall seventh, but Howard's Meredith Mill (ninth), Caitlyn Fuller (10th), Chelsea Foung, Keri Dickens, Nicole Shouse and Katie Aquino all placed in the top 40 to give the Lions the title.

Malloy will now head to the Foot Locker National Cross Country Regionals next Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
