Greyhounds Finish Fifth in MIAA Meet

The Gilman indoor track and field team is strong again, getting off to a good start in the first weeks of the winter season.

In its first Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association meet of the season, the Greyhounds finished in fifth place. They showed great improvement the following two meets, ranking second in their second meet of the season and third in their third meet of the season. The Greyhounds did a good job of scoring points in different places, something all good track teams need for success.

Many Gilman athletes have been getting notice for their hard work with several placing on runningmaryland.com’s top 25 MIAA athletes and performances in the state.

Among the athletes recognized by the site include Conrad Merlke (second, pole vault), Chris Sheridan (third, 500-meter dash), and Jabulani Blyden (second, 800-meter dash). Gilman’s 1,600-meter team ranked third while its 3,200-meter team ranked first in the state.

Despite the excellent record, Gilman is under pressure from MIAA foes like Archbishop Curley, Calvert Hall, McDonogh, and Loyola. The question is if any of the MIAA teams can catch Mount St. Joseph, who has controlled things in the division the last few years, and the Gaels have plenty of talent once more.

Gilman has to continue their winning ways if it wants to have a shot at St. Joe.
