The Calvert Hall golf team has started the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association golf season on a hot streak. The Cardinals have been consistent and led the MIAA with a 5-1 record at one point.
In MIAA golf, teams have six individuals play head-to-head matches with a possibility of winning three points out of an overall 18. A team can get a maximum score of 21.
Adam Stasuk, Austin Abell and Casey Taylor accounted for 10 of the Cardinals’ 13 points in Calvert Hall’s 13-8 victory over Loyola Blakefield March 18. In the Cardinals’ next match, Mac DeFries and Stasuk led the team with 3.5 points apiece, while teammates Justin Hughes and Jason Burton combined for seven points en route to the team’s 15-6 victory over McDonogh.
Two days after defeating the Eagles, Calvert Hall pummeled John Carroll, 19.5-1.5. All six starters scored 1.5 points or higher in their matches.
Following a loss to Gilman, the Cardinals got back to their winning ways with a 13-8 victory over defending MIAA champion St. Paul’s. Calvert Hall then soundly defeated Mount St. Joseph’s, 14.5-6.5, to take over first place in the MIAA. All six Cardinals golfers won their matches on this day.
