Gators, Eagles Dominate Track Classic

Erin Brooks led the Seton Keough Gators at last week's Pikesville Track Classic.

The Seton Keough track team’s 38 points were enough to edge McDonogh for fourth place by two points last weekend at the Pikesville Track Classic.

Erin Brooks led the Gators with first-, second- and fifth-place finishes in three separate events before slowing down with some leg problems. Coach Jim Lancaster was hopeful she'd be able to compete again this week.

Brooks set a meet record with a jump of 40 feet, one inch en route to winning the triple jump. Her second-place finish in the long jump (18-00.25) was an inch short of previous and current record holder, Adenike Pedro of Elizabeth Seton.

Amanda Kimbers of McDonogh won the 100-meter dash (12.38), while Brooks took fifth. Kimbers was the second to last to make the finals, in fact her preliminary time was only a hundredth of a second better than Brooks who was the last runner to make it. The top seed was .24 seconds better than her in preliminaries.

Senior Katie Sacker took fifth in the 3,200 for the Gators, while teammates Leila Forrester finished third to Brooks in the triple jump, and Chelsea Tacvik finished second in the shot put. Also, Seton Keough’s 400 relay team used a time 52.54 to finish in sixth place.

McDonogh’s 400 relay team easily won in a time of 49.10. The Eagles’ Jasmine Robinson came in third in the 400, and teammate Kristen Brown finished second in the 100 hurdles.
