The Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championship for track and field recently released its qualifiers for the upcoming meet and, as usual, McDonogh and Seton Keough topped the list.
McDonogh got three of the top four qualifiers in the 100 meters. Amanda Kimbers is the top seed, while Megan Austin (St..Mary’s) is the second seed -- sandwiched in between Kimbers and Eagles teammates Jazmine Robinson and Jordyn Glaser, who sit third and fourth respectively.
Erin Brooks of Seton Keough is the fifth seed in that race, one of her five qualifying events. Brooks won four events to carry Seton Keough to the indoor IAAM title.
In the 200, Kimbers and Robinson are seeded first and second, respectively, while Brooks sits back at third. Robinson is also the top seed in the 400, while Austin is once again second, and Glaser is third.
The 800 is one of the few events in which neither Seton Keough or McDonogh have a guaranteed qualifier. The top seeds in the 800 are Gabby Harbin of Mercy and Erika Stasakova of John Carroll. Stasakova and teammate Nicole Clarke qualified first and second respectively for the 1,600, while Seton Keough’s Katie Saker qualified fourth.
Stasakova has matured into one of the state’s top distance runners -- for public or private school -- and is headed to Lafayette this fall.
Colleen Randolph of St. Mary’s, seeded third in the 1,600, got the top seed in the 3,200 ahead of Stasakova and Saker who are second and third, respectively. Kristen Brown of McDonogh got the top seed in the 110 hurdles while Kellie Sydnor of Seton Keough is the three seed.
Robinson and teammate Tonamy Paterakis are seeded second and third in the 300 hurdles.
Lacy Shuman, Emma Rakosky and Maggie McElroy of Maryvale own the top three seeds, respectively, in the high jump while Chelsea Tavik of Seton Keough is seeded first in the shot put, ahead of Mahria Young and Hannah Johnstone of McDonogh who are followed by three Seton Keough teammates.
Young is the first seed in the discus, with a qualifying throw nearly 8 feet better then Megan Voorhees of Seton Keough, who is seeded second and has a qualifying throw over 10 feet greater than the next seeded athlete.
Brooks is the first seed in the long jump with teammate Leila Forrester qualifying second ahead of McDonogh’s Brown. Brooks and Forrester are also seeded 1-2 in the triple jump. Also, Megan Kinney of McDonogh will be the second seed in the pole vault, while Voorhees is the fourth seed.
In the relays, McDonogh is the top seed in the 400, second seed in the 1,600, and fourth seed in the 800 and 3,200. Mount de Sales is the top seed in the 1,600 and 3,200, while John Carroll owns the top spot in the 800.
