McDonogh Girls Win Track Title

The McDonogh girls track team rolled over Seton Keough on its way to its fifth consecutive Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland outdoor track title.

The Eagles finished with 196 points, thanks in part to winning 10 events, which was more than enough to beat Seton Keough (109). The Gators won the indoor title, and the McDonogh girls had been looking for revenge ever since.

Amanda Kimbers led the way for the Eagles by winning the 100 meters (12.20), 200 (25.29) while taking part in the 400 relay (49.80), and finishing third in the long jump. Kimbers missed the indoor meet after breaking her foot the night before, and that played a big role in McDonogh losing.

Kristen Brown helped the Eagles by winning the 100 hurdles (14.37), the 300 hurdles (45.60) and the long jump (18-3.25). She also ran on the winning 800 relay team (1:45.43).

Teammate Moriah Young won the discus (112-7) and the shot put (38-7).

Erin Brooks of Seton Keough did the best she could to keep the Gators in contention. Brooks won the triple jump (37-9), edging out teammates Leila Forrester -- who finished second -- and Kellie Sydnor, who took home fourth.

Chelsea Tavik of Seton Keough took home second in the shot put (37-6.50) and second in the discus (103-3). Teammate Megan Vorhees finished third in the discus (97-0) and fifth in the shot put (30-1). Voorhees also finished second in the pole vault (7-6).
